Inspiration - Son of a farmer, Ravi Suhag is now a top hacker in the country.

Ravi Suhag has made it a habit of sorts to win hackathons .So far, Suhag has won 14 of the 16 hackathons he has participated in over the last four years, coming out on top at events organised by companies such as Sequoia and Times Internet, among others.

Born in a farmer's family, Suhag did not have a computer while growing up and got one only after joining college. As a child, Suhag spent the first half of his schooling years at a Hindi-medium village school in Jhajjar, Haryana, in the seventh grade, when his father came home with a new gadget, a combination of an FM radio and tape recorder, Suhag discovered a budding interest in electronics, like many other young Indians, he had set his sights on attending one of the elite Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). This despite the fact that his computer knowledge was limited to the likes of Microsoft Paint, and he’d only ever seen a computer at school, and never owned one himself.

But in a surprising turn of events, this wasn’t the case. “My mind went blank on the exam day,” Suhag said. “I couldn’t clear the IIT exam.” Suhag did manage to get into another engineering college—Kamrah Institute of Information Technology (KIIT) in Gurugram,

Today, Suhag works at ride-hailing platform GoJek, and runs his profitable private venture alongside. He’s also a consultant at the Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD) at Harvard University, where he works with various rural ministries to reduce delays in making digital payments to workers. And ever since his first brush with hackathons during an early stint as a web developer in Gurugram in July 2013, Suhag has been making a name for himself in coding, too.

Suhag received an award at an event organised by the office of the president of India, the Festival of Innovation, for his work in digitizing entry into public monuments by creating a web platform and mobile app to replace manual ticket checkpoints.

While that’s proof that not attending a top institution doesn’t have to limit your career, Suhag believes there’s a lot more that can be done to create more success stories like himself.

The 18th edition of the annual film festival and forum of the largest documentary producer outside of the government is being held from 10 to 18 September in New Delhi.

The Public Service Broadcasting Trust, established in alliance with the Ford Foundation of the USA and the Prasar Bharati Corporation, which runs India’s public broadcasters, in 2000, mentors, funds and promotes the production of independent documentaries in India.PSBT is the largest body outside the government to produce documentary films and is a significant stakeholder in the independent documentary movement in India, producing over 50 independent documentaries annually.PSBT’s stated mission is to create and sustain a credible space for independent, participatory, pluralistic and democratic storytelling through the moving image, distanced from commercial considerations and state / political pressures. Half of PSBT films are made by women. The trust also encourages young talent that is starting out, and 68% of the filmmakers who work with it are first-timers.

PSBT’s annual film festival and forum, the Open Frame, is held every year in New Delhi and provides a space and context for serious engagement with documentary films from India and across the world, representing diverse voices and experiences, providing valuable insights into contemporary times, and a platform for training in filmaking, appreciation and understanding. Open Frame moves beyond passive viewing of films to an active involvement of the audience. Its emphasis is on discussion, dialogue, conversation and debate triggered by the films. In addition, it hosts a variety of professional and student workshops on multiple elements of filmmaking.

Over the years, the festival has explored a wide range of subjects and themes: human rights, livelihood, environment, feminism and development to conflict, diversity and politics. Films at the festival include PSBT productions, selected at festivals the world over, and international productions celebrated across Sundance, Full Frame, Tribeca, HotDocs, Berlin, Seattle, Human Rights Watch and Thessaloniki, among others.

The 18th Open Frame Film Festival has an exciting lineup of new voices, films, conversations and workshops. Apart from professional intensive workshops for freshers and mid-career filmmakers and documentary masterclasses with four senior filmmakers, there will be a special conversation with auteurs Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Shyam Benegal, both Dadasaheb Phalke awardees and trustees of PSBT.

Inspirational - This is how Nupur Tewari is changing lives both in Japan and India through ‘Heal Tokyo’.

We may have heard many charity projects, which have set exemplary milestones for others to follow. One of such program is ‘Heal Tokyo’. ‘Heal Tokyo’ is a philanthropic project initiated by Indian born Nupur Tewari. Nupur, a mother and a proud Indian is a firm believer and doer of yoga and peace. Her ‘Heal Tokyo’ project is a unique charity project that anticipates bringing equality and peace in the life of people reached through it.

Born and brought up in India, Nupur always wanted to pay back her country of origin as well the country where she has been living in from the last 14 years. Heal Tokyo fulfills both of her desires at one go. People from all age groups in Tokyo are encouraged to take part in international yoga sessions in open parks, cafés and homes. Yoga and meditation help people to connect with their inner soul, peace and serenity out of their busy and robotized life. The contributions from yoga sessions are used to finance the primary education of kids in urban slums of different cities of India.

Our main aim is bringing peace in people’s life, make them love themselves and spread love and positivity through yoga. In return with their donations, they get the chance to support the education of underprivileged children in India. Kindness multiplies when we add our efforts; who knows, a slum kid we nurture today may rise to be another change maker tomorrow, said Nupur Tewari.

Nupur aims to end illiteracy from India and give underprivileged children a better life through education. Kids in urban slums are much more vulnerable to be in wrong paths if not given a proper channel of education and guidance. That is why through her Heal Tokyo project, Nupur has chosen to finance the primary education of kids living in urban slums across different cities in India.

I feel blessed to know Japan very closely being with only Japanese people there and learn their culture from the grassroots level – Nupur Tewari.

Nupur has handful of experiences in teaching international students in more than 32 schools of Japan for more than 12 years. She has hosted different TV shows in Japan. Nupur has also anchored at various national and international events there in Japan.

All India Radio, Mysore came into existence on 10.09.1935 as an amateur attempt by Prof. M.V.Gopalaswamy, a Professor of Psychology in University of Mysore, which, over the years, evolved into a professional broadcasting institution. In fact,he is credited with having given the Indian Name “AKASHVANI” to All India Radio, which is said to have been endorsed by Government of India later. All India Radio, Mysore was a private enterprise till 1942 when Mysore City municipal Council under the Princely State of Mysore took over it. However, after independence, the station was taken over by Government of India and it came under the administration of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. In 1950, the station was shifted to Bangalore.

After a gap of 24 years i.e. in 14.11.1974, All India Radio, Mysore was re-commissioned with 1 KW MW Transmitter. This transmitter was replaced by 10 KW FM Transmitter on 01.01.2003 with a coverage radius of 60 Kms. As such, the districts of Mysore, Mandya and Chamarajanagar come under programme zone of the station.

At present, All India Radio, Mysore is airing programmes from 05.55 AM to 11.05 PM.

Mysore being the cultural capital of the state, has a rich resource of classical, light and folk music. All India Radio, Mysore is equipped with talented Staff Artists as well as Auditioned artists on casual panel.

Besides Classical Music, Drama and Features, the station broadcasts a wide variety of spoken word programmes and special audience programmes for all categories of listeners ranging from tiny tots to men of letters, as Mysore is a city of Universities and a variety of Institutions with disciplines raging from Food Technology to oriental Research. All India Radio, Mysore has organized many a Radio Sangeeth Sammelana and has won quite a few awards in National and State Level Competitions which include Akashvani Annual Awards also. Commemorating the Platinum Jubilee of the station, year long celebrations were held during 2010-2011.

By periodical revamping of programmes, with the cultural flavor of Karnataka & Mysuru, it has been able to stand in tune with changing trends without compromising the basic tenets of National Broadcast.
