Mrs . Th.Thoithoi Chanu, then EA, AIR Imphal wins the Best Women Engineer Award in North East Zone for Technical Excellence 2014. She joined AIR in 2008 as Engineering Assistant at AIR Kohima. After transfer from AIR Kohima in 2011, she worked at AIR Imphal till 2016. She was subsequently transferred to LRS Churachandpur and working at LRS Churachandpur since then.

Smt. Th. Thoithoi Chanu has been actively associated in NETIA Software installation and maintenance of Studio and FM transmitter maintenance work during her stay at AIR Imphal.

Foundation stone laying ceremony for a 10kW FM Radio Station by HMIB at Nellore

The SPSR Nellore district headquarters of AP witnessed a glittering ceremony on 31.03.2017 which, inter-alia, marked an occasion of laying foundation stone for a 10kW FM radio station by the Honourable Minister of Information and Broadcasting and Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Those who graced the occasion by their august presence included Shri Kamineni Srinivas, Hon’ble AP Minister for Medical & Health, Shri M. Rajamohan Reddy, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, Hon’ble MLC, Shri K. Ramakrishna Reddy, Hon’ble MLA, Venkatagiri, Shri Bommireddy Raghava Reddy, Hon’ble Chairmen Zilla Parishad, Nellore, Shri Abdul Azeez, Hon’ble Mayor, Nellore, Smt M. Janaki, IAS, Pvt. Secretary to HMIB, Shri Revu Muthyala Raju, IAS, District Collector & Magistrate, Nellore, Shri F. Sheheryar, Director General, AIR, New Delhi, Shri Ch. Gopinath, IRS, MD, APMSIDC, Hyderabad, Dr.Subbarao, DME, Nellore, Dr. Raviprabhu, Principal ACSR Medical College, Nellore and Dr. C. Radhakrishna Raju, Supt., GGH, Nellore.

Shri Venkaiah Naidu, in his address, admired All India Radio’s exemplary promptitude in making this project a reality. The station as it comes up, will showcase local aspirations and participation in the broadcasts by the local talent. This station will work independent of AIR, Vijayawada, Cuddapah or Chennai and will have a pure local complexion. The broadcast infrastructure being procured for this station will be state of the art, imported FM transmitter, broadcast consoles, microphones and studio acoustics etc comparable to the standards in the developed world.

The signal of this station will remain available to the listeners of Nellore, not only through conventional receivers, but also through mobile phones, car stereos too. Those who spoke on the occasion, among the dignitaries mentioned above, hailed the decision as a unique gift of the Honourable Mr Venkaiah Naidu Garu to the people of Nellore district.

                                    ( आकाशवाणी वार्षिक पुरस्कार 2016 में संयुक्त द्वितीय पुरस्कार )
आकाशवाणी वार्षिक पुरस्कार 2016 में आकाशवाणी, रायपुर के 2 कार्यक्रम राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर पुरस्कृत हुए हैं। पहला कार्यक्रम रूपक ‘‘नारंगी गैग’’ है, जिसके लेखक और प्रस्तुतकर्ता समीर शुक्ल हैं। इस कार्यक्रम की रूपरेखा, निर्माण और प्रस्तुतिकरण में केन्द्र की उपनिदेशक (कार्यक्रम) श्रीमती मोक्षदा चन्द्राकर का सक्रिय मार्गदर्शन रहा । बाजारवाद के युग में विकास के सुनहरे प्रकाश के साथ दबे-छिपे या मुखरित रूप में नाकारात्मकता की दस्तक हमारे परिवार और समाज के लिये एक बड़ी चुनौती प्रस्तुत करती है। ये प्रवृत्तियां नशा, घरेलू हिंसा के साथ शारीरिक और मानसिक स्वास्थ्य पर बुरा असर डालती हैं। इसके पारिवारिक और सामाजिक परिणाम भयानक और दूरगामी होते हैं। रायपुर के चंगोराभाठा इलाके की महिलाओं ने पुरूषों द्वारा समाज में फैलने वाली इन समस्याओं का एक अनूठा उपचार निकाला। उन्होंने एक समूह बनाया जिसका नाम दिया ‘‘नारंगी गैंग’’। नारंगी गैंग की महिलाएं समूह में देर शाम से रात तक इलाके में डंडे और सीटियों के साथ गश्त लगाती हैं और नशे, जुएं में लिप्त किशोरों और पुरूषों को समझाती हैं, न मानने पर पुलिस की मदद से उनकी नकारात्मक प्रवृत्तियों का उपचार करती है। पुलिस और प्रशासन का इनको पूरा सहयोग है। अब इनको देखकर अन्य स्थानों में भी ऐसे लगभग 300 सौ समूह बन चुके हैं। ये महिला सशक्तिकरण का एक अनूठा उदाहरण है। इस कार्यक्रम को आकाशवाणी वार्षिक पुरस्कार 2016 में संयुक्त द्वितीय पुरस्कार दिया गया है।

 आकाशवाणी रायपुर की दूसरी प्रस्तुति रूपक ‘‘दामिनी’’ युववाणी श्रेणी में आकाशवाणी वार्षिक पुरस्कार 2016 के अंतर्गत मैरिट सर्टिफिकेट विजेता बनी है। ‘‘दामिनी’’ रूपक विषय चयन और संरचना तथा आलेखविहीन प्रस्तुति की रूप सज्जा को आकर्षक और प्रस्तुतिकरण को अभिनव स्वरूप प्रदान करने में केन्द्र की उपनिदेशक (कार्यक्रम) श्रीमती मोक्षदा चन्द्राकर का अतुलनीय योगदान और मार्गदर्शन रहा । ये कार्यक्रम एक 17 वर्षीय एक ऐसी बालिका की कहानी है, जो प्रथम वर्ष स्नातक की छात्रा है, जिसने आठवीं में 79 प्रतिशत, दसवीं में 80 प्रतिशत और बारहवीं में 73 प्रतिशत अंक प्राप्त किये। ये चित्रकारी और पेंटिंग में एक घंटे में 38 चित्र बनाकर गोल्डन बुक आॅफ वल्र्ड रिकार्ड में दर्ज हो चुकी है। देश के प्रधानमंत्री श्री नरेन्द्र मोदी के हाथों सम्मानित इस बालिका के दोनों हाथ कंधे के पास से बचपन से नहीं है। दामिनी ने पैरों को अपने हाथ के रूप में उपयोग कर यह उपलब्धियां हासिल की हैं। ये कार्यक्रम आलेखविहीन था, जिसमें दामिनी ने अपनी संघर्षगाथा स्वयं सुनाई है, जिसे ध्वनि प्रभाव के माध्यम से आकर्षक और प्रेरणास्पद बनाया गया है। इस अभिनव प्रस्तुति में दामिनी के साथ उसके परिजनों की भावनाएं भी पिरोई गई हैं। एक दृढ़निश्चयी संघर्षशील दिव्यांग बालिका की सच्ची कहानी है दामिनी।

Shri Abhijit Sengupta (Sarma), EA AIR Siliguri has bagged 2nd prize in Best Technical Innovation category of Akashvani Annual Award - 2014 for the work - The Simulator for control card of FM PA GCEL and BEL Make.

The power control card of Power Amplifier is very important in respect of Fwd and Reflected Power control with immediate shut back to save the costly Bipolar transistor. This simulator give the necessary voltages to the different point of the card as per requirement so that the faulty card can repair without connecting it with PA which is very heavy in structure and difficult to work with. The simulator can adjust and tune the card for optimum condition of safe running of Power Amplifier so that a single person can repair and tune the faulty PA in the bench setup mode. The cost of the card is about Rs 250 without digital board. Only a good Multimeter is required for the above work. The same simulator has further developed to interface with PC for easy overshooting.

Doordarshan’s revenue rises to Rs827.51 crore in FY17

Doordarshan got Rs318.06 crore from government advertisements and Rs157.59 crore from corporate ads during the year.New Delhi: State-run broadcaster Doordarshan on Monday said its net revenue rose to Rs827.51 crore in the year ended 31 March, surpassing its annual target of Rs800 crore.The broadcaster got Rs318.06 crore from government advertisements and Rs157.59 crore from corporate ads during the year.Doordarshan, owned by Prasar Bharati, had reported a net revenue of Rs755 crore in 2015-16. “We surpassed our target this time and the revenue is much higher as compared to last year. Our DTH (direct-to-home) revenue has seen a significant rise. We have also tried to cut down our expenditure,” said Supriya Sahu, director general at Doordarshan, adding that the broadcaster is in the process of re-evaluating its manpower requirements in a bid to pare costs.

The broadcaster, which operates 23 channels across the country, recorded the highest ever revenue from its free-to-air DTH platform DD Free Dish in 2016-17. DD Free Dish recorded a revenue of Rs264.17 crore in 2016-17, a 47% increase from a year ago. It had generated Rs180 crore from Free Dish in 2015-16.DD Free Dish currently carries 80 channels, including Star India Pvt. Ltd’s Star Utsav and Sony Pictures Network’s Sony Pal. It also broadcasts news channels such as Aaj Tak, ABP News and News 24.

“The rise in our DTH revenue is a result of our expanded reach across the country. We had revised reserve prices in 2016 and have had very successful DTH slot auctions during the year,” Sahu added.DD Free Dish has 22 million subscribers across India, show recent estimates from television viewership measurement agency Barc India.Going forward, the broadcaster plans to add 24 new channels to DD Free Dish, taking the total channel count to 104. The platform is also planning to encrypt its free-to-air signals to secure the signals from being stolen by unauthorized operators.

The broadcaster is in the middle of a revamp to revive its viewership and finances. In 2017-18, Doordarshan expects to generate Rs100 crore from the prime-time programming slot auction that concluded in December 2016.“We are revamping all the content on channels like DD National, DD Kashir and DD Sports. We are also curating content for our north-east channel, DD Arun Prabha. We expect the revenues to further go up this year,” Sahu said. The broadcaster is also planning to introduce new channels in kids, youth and music genres. “The overall approach is good. It is a good strategy to have a mix of Doordarshan’s own content as well as content from private producers. What Doordarshan is doing with Free Dish is outstanding. Free Dish is the largest DTH company and is only getting bigger,” said Ashish Pherwani, media and entertainment advisory leader at EY India.

New Nellore FM station will highlight culture of the region: Naidu

Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said that once the Nellore All India Radio FM station becomes operational, it will go a long way not only in patronising the local talents in the fields of art and culture but also become a catalyst for the social and economic development of the region.Speaking after laying the foundation stone of the 10kw FM Station of AIR in Nellore (Andhra Pradesh) in a glittering ceremony in the SPSR Nellore district headquarters this morning, the Minister said this station will have state of the art imported FM transmitter and broadcast equipment comparable to international standards.

Describing it as the first step towards fulfilling a long standing dream and aspiration of the people of Nellore, the Minister said it will originate programmes independent of AIR, Vijayawada, Cuddapah or Chennai and will have a pure local complexion.The programme of the station shall also be available on mobile phones, car stereos etc. besides conventional radio receivers.Many other dignitaries including Andhra Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, Member of Parliament M Rajmohan Reddy, Nellore Mayor Abdul Azeez and AIR DG F Sheheryar among others were present on the occasion.

Inspiration - 'Poorna' trainer IPS officer turns construction labour in Telangana

Ever heard of an IPS officer do hard labour as a construction worker? On Sunday, 47-year-old R S Praveen Kumar did just that. The country, in fact, is raving about him as the man who mentored Poorna climb the Everest. Praveen Kumar's role has been essayed by producer-director-actor Rahul Bose in 'Poorna' that got released last week.

His portrayal on the big screen notwithstanding, Praveen Kumar, who is the secretary of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society, did not allow his fame on the big screen to affect his down-to-earth behaviour. Joining volunteers of 'Swaero' who are alumni of social welfare institutions, the IPS officer carried cement, bricks and construction material to help construct a house of a family in Warangal.

"I spent my Sunday in construction of New home in Warangal for the family of Sireesha who died of dengue last year. Her family is living in abject poverty and I am surprised their hut doesn't even have walls and floor. Absolutely sub-human," the IPS officer said.

"It is mandatory for Swaeroes to help the poorest, construct/repair their homes in our Holy Month," he said thanking all who 'offered their sweat today.'



RS Praveen Kumar IPS, is Secretary, Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society. He is Secretary of APSWREIS, and oversaw the functioning of about 290 residential schools. He is a honest, passionate IPS officer who, for years, chose deliberately to serve in the Social Welfare department for his passion towards uplifting the downtrodden. Even when the Telangana State is formed, he preferred the same post. He is the brain behind the social welfare school students Poorna and Anand’s conquest of Mt. Everest. He is father figure for the kids so much so that both kids want to be IPS officers and name Praveen Kumar as their idol. They even dedicated their Mt Everest conquest to him.

Yesterday, in Vivekananda Foundation Building, New Delhi, a meaningful seminar on "Communicating India" was held in collaboration with important Indian & foreign institutions including Prasar Bharati, in which thinkers & opinion makers from relevant walks of life spoke & invited reciprocity from the invited audience. I couldn't be there for longer than an hour for my office that kept beckoning me for clearance of both Urgent & Important matters. 

The idea of this open conclave was devising ways & means for the right portrayal of India's personality to the world outside India's geographical contours, define India's role in sharing global concerns & express India's willingness to come to the rescue of humankind apart from bringing all together so that development replaces subversion.

Dr Jetendra Singh, Hon'ble Union Minister in his inimitable style, lamented why humans need to be reminded that they are human beings, not created to bite each other, while, on the contrary, dog habitual of biting doesn't bite a dog, serpent doesn't attack a snake but man derives a sadistic pleasure by attacking his fellow beings. He appropriately quoted Ghalib who was equally concerned in his lifetime & had said:-

بسکہ دشوار ہے ہر کام کا آساں ہونا۔
آدمی کو بھی میسر نہیں انساں ہونا۔
बसकि दुश्वार है हर काम का आसां होना।
आदमी को भी मयस्सर नही इन्सां होना।

Senior Hindi Announcer of AIR Mumbai Mrs. PRATIBHA BIRJE expired today... She had cancer one year back and was cured.But yesterday she became unconscious and was admitted in ICU at Bombay Hospital.

The magic of radio is still in the AIR

The advent of live telecast may have taken the shine off the radio but one thing that didn’t alter for over five decades was the magic of the running commentary of Sita Rama Kalyanam broadcast by the All India Radio (AIR) from Bhadrachalam. The running commentary of the celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Sita was first broadcasted by the Vijayawada station in 1965. Since then, many a great personality like Jammalamadaka Madhava Rama Sharma, Malladi Chandrasekhara Shastry and Ushasri held the microphone and captivated the Telugu-speaking people with their magical voice and spontaneity while narrating the sequence of the celestial wedding. The description of the radio commentary was such that it always created a sense of being present at the celestial wedding of Sita Rama held in Bhadrachalam. It’s no exaggeration to say that even in the age of hitech gadgets there is sizeable number of passionate devotees who stuck to their radios on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami to listen to the live commentary of the celestial wedding. 

“In many temples, priests used to perform the kalyanam parallelly listening to the radio commentary of the Bhadradri Rama’s wedding,” Gangu Upendra Sharma, Telangana Archaka Samakya president, said, stating that owning a radio itself is a luxury in those days. In times of no proper transportation facility to Bhadrachalam, radio commentary was the only way for the people to get connected to the Lord’s wedding, he said. BSS Sharma, popularly known as Ramayanam Sharma, who commentated between 2001 and 2015, said: “Initially, Jammalamadaka Madhava Rama Sharma set a trend with his spontaneity.” Once commentating, he said: “Rama, quite a few NRIs who came to witness your celestial wedding today want you to celebrate your honeymoon in USA.” Mallapragada Sri Ranga Rao, Malladi Chandrasekhara Shastry, Ushasri, Jandhyala Mahati Shankar, KVS Acharya and STG Sreeman Narayana Charyulu all have distinct style and greats in their own right, he said, explaining about the spiritual euphoria generated by the radio commentary. “Arrangements are in place for the live radio commentary of the wedding onWednesday from 10.30 am to 12.30 noon. 

All the AIR stations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will relay the commentary of the wedding. We have engaged K Papaiah Shastry, NCH Chakravarthy, Shreeman Narayana Charyulu and M Dakshina Murthy,” Assistant director programmes C Jaipal Reddy Kothagudem FM Station said. Kothagudem FM Station has been broadcasting the running commentary since its inception in 1989. Prior to that AIR Vijayawada Station was in charge of producing the programme, transmission executive B Srinivasan said.

Modi government mulls launching digital channel that will be India's voice

An official digital platform for the 'India perspective'— the Centre is considering a plan to launch a high-end digital platform that will present "India's point of view and perspective on global events on the Internet". Operating cost is estimated at around Rs 75 crore. The idea was discussed by a committee headed by the Prasar Bharati chairman, A Surya Prakash, and the Prasar Bharati board has approved it recently. The digital channel, according to its concept note, "will challenge the anti-India narrative in foreign media through hard and compelling commentary, challenge stereotypes attributed to Indian systems and put forward the India perspective". The other members of the committee included Sunil Alagh and Shashi Shekar Vempati, members, Prasar Bharati board, R Jagannathan, editorial director, Swarajya magazine, Vamsee Juluri, professor, University of San Francisco, and Prasar Bharati interim CEO Rajeev Singh.
The digital platform will serve as the go-to point for "the Indian voice" for global opinion makers, influencers, domestic media, India-focused researchers, global academia and think tanks, Surya Prakash told ET, adding that Vempati had come up with the concept. The idea of a global news channel was first mooted by the United Progressive Alliance government but the initiative could never come to fruition. "It couldn't happen earlier for whatever reason. But this is the right time to have a global media presence," Surya Prakash said. The report of the Prasar Bharati committee that ET has reviewed recommends that the proposed digital platform be created "through an appropriate corporate structure under the Companies Act, 2013, that will ensure both financial autonomy and global competitiveness". The goals of this initiative will be to become a "global news brand for the voice of India". Specific goals have been set: over a three-year period, 10 million to 100 million page views a month, 1 million mobile app downloads, and 1 million YouTube subscribers.

Unexplained radio signals are coming from space, not Earth, scientists confirm

Scientists have confirmed that the most mysterious signal in the universe is coming from space. Fast Radio Bursts - the strange signals that are occasionally sent down to Earth - have been pinned down to everything from aliens to a measuring mistake. But researchers have now ruled out the most down-to-Earth explanation, that the signals aren't actually coming from space but from interference on Earth. New work confirms that the mysterious bursts of radio waves, tracked over 10 years, are actually coming from somewhere else in the universe. Fast Radio Burst, or FRBs, were first found 10 years ago. They last for only a fraction of a second but seem to be coming from vast distances away, and are a billion times brighter than anything we've seen in our own Milky Way.

The bizarre signals - and the fact that they appear to line up in a peculiar arrangement, and come from one specific place - have led some to suggest that they might even be messages from aliens. But others explained them by suggesting that they could be local interference, tricking astronomers into thinking they had found the unusual messages. In 2015, for instance, it emerged that researchers had actually detected their own microwave in one experiment, rather than the mysterious message from aliens they thought they found. But the new work proves that the messages do in fact originate outside the Earth's atmosphere. The scientists came to the conclusion after detecting three of the FRBs using the Molonglo radio telescope that sits outside Canberra, in Australia. That telescope has a huge focal length, which allows it to look at large parts of the sky. That makes it excellent for catching Fast Radio Bursts, which come only intermittently. 

Manisha Caleb, a PhD candidate at Australian National University, Swinburne University of Technology and the ARC Centre of Excellence for All-sky Astrophysics (Caastro), confirmed that their messages were extraterrestrial by re-engineering that telescope and sifting through the 1000 TB of data that it provides each day - finding three new Fast Radio Bursts, all of which definitely came from space.

गीत रामायण : ईश्वर के बारे में, ईश्वर से बात करने वाला संगीत

स्वये श्री राम प्रभु ऐकती ... जैसे ही ये गगनभेदी, अलौकिक स्वर कानों को छूता है ... हम बस ध्यानस्थ हो जाते हैं। ... वो सब जो कहते/जानते हैं कि संगीत ईश्वर है उनके लिए तो इससे दिव्य और आनंददायक कुछ हो ही नहीं सकता। क्योंकि यहाँ तो ईश्वर के बारे में और ईश्वर से बात करने वाला संगीत है, आत्मा के पोर से निथर कर आए शब्द हैं, आस्था को अनंत से जोड़ने का भाव-बोध है, कथा है, कविता है, साहित्य है, लालित्य है दार्शनिक श्रेष्ठता, प्रवचन का प्रवाह, उपदेश का गांभीर्य ... इतना सबकुछ एक जगह!! ये मेरे बचपन की भोर का स्वर है ... आत्मिक, दिव्य, प्रिय। सच! गदिमा और सुधीर फड़के जी क्या विरासत छोड़ गए हैं हम सभी के लिए। जी हाँ गदिमा यानि गजानन  दिगंबर माडगूळकर, ग.दि. माडगूळकर। मराठी साहित्य और कविता के ऐसे सशक्त हस्ताक्षर जिन्होंने हिन्दी में भी उसी महारत से लिखा (आगे जिक्र करूँगा)। उन्होंने क्या, कितना और कैसा लिखा ये सब ना भी जानें-पढ़ें तो एक केवल ये गीत रामायण ही काफी है उन्हें कालजयी बनाने के लिए जैसे कि वाल्मिकी और गोस्वामी तुलसीदास के लिए हुआ। ... वो कोई दैवीय संयोग ही रहा होगा जिसमें पुणे आकाशवाणी के कार्यक्रम संयोजक सीताकांत लाड ने अपने मित्र गदिमा से श्रोताओं के लिए कुछ नया, कुछ अलग रचने का आग्रह करवाया होगा। पुणे आकाशवाणी की शुरुआत सन 1953 में हुई थी। सीताकांत लाड खुद नहीं जानते होंगे कि वो किस महान रचनाकर्म के निमित्त बनने जा रहे हैं। उनके आग्रह ने गदिमा के भीतर बैठे रचनाकार को ठीक वहीं छुआ जहाँ चेतन और अवचेतन का मिलन-बिंदु होता है। उन्होंने भारतीय मानस के मर्म बिन्दु – रामायण को अपनी विषय वस्तु बनाया और ये गीत रामायण नाम सुंदर महाकाव्य रच दिया!! 28 हज़ार श्लोकों वाली वाल्मिकी रामायण को गदिमा ने 56 गीतों में शब्दबध्द कर दिया। जब कुछ महान रचा जाना हो तो संजोग बस बनते चले जाते हैं। इन 56 गीतों को 36 रागों की स्वरमाला में गूँथने का कार्य किया बाबूजी के नाम से प्रख्यात संगीतकार सुधीर फड़के ने। उन्होंने ना केवल संगीत दिया बल्कि इस गीत रामायण का मुख्य स्वर भी वो ही बने। गदिमा और बाबूजी के इस मणिकांचन योग ने इतिहास के कालपात्र में एक ऐसी अमर रचना दर्ज की जो आने वाले युगों तक अनमोल थाती बनकर इन दोनों रचनाकारों का स्मरण कराती रहेगी। 1 अप्रैल 1955 से 19 अप्रैल 1956 तक आकाशवाणी पुणे से प्रसारित इस गीत रामायण ने ना केवल उस समय के महाराष्ट्रीयन समाज वरन वृहत्तर भारत को संगीत और आस्था के अनोखे सूत्र में बाँध दिया। कोई आश्चर्य नहीं कि शीघ्र ही इसका अन्य भारतीय भाषाओं में अनुवाद हुआ। संगीत-आस्था-आध्यात्म-आवाज़ का एक साथ आनंद लेने के लिए ये एक अप्रतिम रचना है। शब्दों का लालित्य देखिए 

कुमार दोघे एक वयाचे
सजीव पुतळे रघुरायाचे
पुत्र सांगति चरित पित्याचे................ 
ज्योतिने तेजाचि आरती... 

हिन्दी फिल्मों से रचनाकारों को समझने और आसानी के लिए – गदिमा ने ही वी. शांताराम की दो आँखे बारह हाथ की कथा और पटकथा लिखी है (इसके अलावा तूफान और दिया, गूँज उठी शहनाई) और सुधीर फड़के बाबूजी ने भाभी की चूड़ियाँ में संगीत दिया है। इन दोनों ही महान रचनाकारों को प्रणाम!!
