Dr. Rupa Mehta, ADP & Head of Programmes Doordarshan Kendra, Ahmedabad is retiring from services on 30th September, 2020 on superannuation.

 


Dr. Rupa Mehta, Head of Programme, Doordarshan Kendra, Ahmedabad is retiring on superannuation on 30th September 2020 after completion of an illustrious career of almost 31 years in Doordarshan. Dr. Mehta joined Doordarshan Kendra, Ahmedabad in 1989 as a Programme Executive through UPSC Batch 1986.  She has also served Doordarshan Kendra, Jaipur and Doordarshan Directorate, New Delhi.

As Head of Programme of Doordarshan, Ahmedabad for more than five years, Dr. Mehta sincerely tried to make a positive change in the Programming of DD Girnar.  During the eventful tenure, the live telecasts of Hon. PM Shri Narendra Modi and many world leaders like Shinzo Abe Prime Minister of Japan, Xi Jinping President of China, Benjamin Netanyahu Prime Minister of Israel, Donald Trump USA President, etc. during their visit to Gujarat is most significant.

A Graduate of Philosophy, Post Graduate Diploma in Development Communication, Masters in Indian Culture (Specialized in Indian Classical Dance, Dramatics, and Music), Dr. Mehta also did her Ph.D. in “The Origin & Development of Kathak with Special reference to Gujarat”.  

 She has also received many training and fellowships in India and abroad including Refresher Course on “Using Educational Media to Engage Children, Young People and Women in Development” organized by Radio Nederland Training Center and Voice of Vietnam at Vietnam in 2008, Fellow of Radio Nederland Training Center for International Educational Programme Production Course on Peace Building and After Effects of Conflicts, 2003, the Netherlands, Fellow of Commonwealth Foundation Fellowship Scheme to promote Commonwealth understanding 1999,  Travelled to UK, Fiji and Australia, nominated by Broadcasting Corporation of India, 7 Commonwealth Broadcasting Association London.

She has had programmes of almost all genres in her kitty, Dance and Folk Art Programmes, Women’s Programmes, Development Programmes, News & Current Affairs, Literary Programmes, to mention a few. She has also been given special assignments such as Living Legends – A series on Music Maestro, 2011-12 in CPC Delhi, “Gandhi Katha” Story of Mahatma Gandhi told by Veteran Gandhian Late Shri Narayan Desai, National Network Programmes on various subjects like Role of Sardar Patel, Mahatma Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, Jamnalal Bajaj, Capt. Dr. Laxmi Sehgal in Freedom Movement of India,  Folk Art of Gujarat, Classical & Folk Dance, Election Coverages, National Games and South Asian Federation Games, etc.

 She is an excellent orator who loves to teach and write. She teaches Indian Culture, Women & Media and Television Production in Gujarat University, she has always been interested in Theater Activities - since 1978 working as an actor in Theater for Social Concerns.  “Kathak Parampara ane Gujarat” is one of her published books.

PB Parivar wish Dr. Rupa Mehta a happy and peaceful retirement from Govt. services and a second innings in her area of interest - writing, acting, teaching, etc.
