All India Radio (AIR), Mysuru, is broadcasting a musical series on Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar as part of his birth centenary titled ‘Sri Vidya Visharada Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Vaibhava.’ The series will feature 94 rare compositions of the last ruler of Mysore, who penned the compositions in the pen name ‘Sri Vidya’ where Jayachamaraja Wadiyar’s musical journey will be highlighted.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, here this morning, AIR, Mysuru, Programme Executive S. Subramanya said, “The 94 rare compositions of Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar is a tribute to the Mysuru ruler during his birth centenary year. We have already started the programme from last week and the half-an-hour tribute will be aired every Friday at 8.30 am and it will be repeated on Sundays at 4.30 pm.” The script for the musical series is written by Vidwan Najnjundaswamy and the musical part is by AIR Music Composer G. Pushpalatha, he said.
Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, wife of late Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, is sponsoring the programme. She told Star of Mysore that it is her tribute to her late father-in-law Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar who was a musical genius as he had composed these 94 rare compositions. “I am really delighted that AIR, Mysuru is paying a tribute to Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar during his birth centenary year. His birth anniversary falls on July 18 and the musical series culminate on his birthday,” she said.
