With five states set for polls in April-May, public broadcaster Doordarshan has come up with a slew of programmes on the hustings. "Doordarshan News has planned a variety of special shows ranging from audience-based shows to reports from the ground under the overall title - Janadesh 2016," said a senior DD News official. Elections are set to be held in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pudducherry during April-May with the results to be announced on May 19. As part of the broadcaster's plan, a one-hour programme in Hindi with the same title Janadesh 2016 was launched yesterday giving a detailed overview of what is at stake in the states for the ruling dispensations, the challenges they are facing, the new political equations on the ground in each of these states as well as the issues and personalities that will dominate. The show will have two guests and live reports from journalists on the ground. A similar program in English was launched today.
From tomorrow, DD News will start a half-an-hour-long news show at 7.30 pm in Hindi. This 5-days-a-week programme will have theme specific packages, live inputs from reporters and discussion with guests in the studio. Apart from this, the channel will also have Election Top 10 to capture daily election related major developments from election bound states. DD News has also planned an audience-based show "Janvaani" from these states. These hour-long shows will be in both Hindi and English and will be telecast on Saturdays with repeats on Sundays at 6 pm. "We have created a special desk which will work round the clock to monitor development of these polls. The focus is on objective as well as comprehensive coverage," senior consulting editor, DD News, K G Suresh said.
