Shri. B.R. KUMAR who retired as Deputy Director General, DDG of AIR passed away on 7.9.17 at 2.45 PM at a private nursing home in Chennai. He was suffering from acute diabetes and related infections for quite some time. Born on 10.7.1943, Shri. B.R. KUMAR entered service as a Transmission Executive at AIR, Tiruchirapalli on 28.10.1967. Steadily he rose up the ranks and retired on 31.7.2003 as Deputy Director General at AIR, Chennai.
He had served in various capacities at many places both in AIR and DDK, including Cuttack, Nagpur, Kolkatta, Puducherry, Tiruchirapalli, Chennai, etc,. Known for his writing skills, especially Radio Plays, Shri. B.R. KUMAR had a penchant for novel techniques in broadcasting. It was he who was instrumental in introducing LIVE Talk shows and interactions through telephones during the later 90’s. He has contributed immensely to various fields of broadcasting, besides being a regular in many magazines in which he has been writing articles and special features.
A great loss to the broadcasting fraternity of our country, Shri. B.R. KUMAR was known for his no nonsense approach to issues, their speedy resolution and a swift & accurate decision making. The last rites of shri. B.R. KUMAR would be held at his residence at Tiruvanmiyur, Chennai at about 10 AM On Friday, that is 8.9.17. May his soul find peace at the Holy Feet of Ramana Maharishi, his spiritual Guru. Om Shanti.

SHRI.B.R.KUMAR who served in Doordarshan and A I R for over 30 years in various capacities passed away at Chennai on 7th September afternoon. He planned and executed many innovative programmes over radio. e.g VANNAMANIMAALAI AND VASANTHA VEEDU, phone-in info programmes. He was a good lover of classical music. Good speaker on devotional literature and Tamil culture. I had the privilege of working with him in DD and in AIR over 5 years. He is a good friend and guide to all of us. By his sheer dint of hard work, he rose from the position of Transmission executive to Deputy Director General. He faced many transitions in professional life, but never lost his cool. His demise is a great loss to media people. I convey my condolences to bereaving family and friends. May his soul rest in peace----Aswinikumar.
