All India Radio listeners recall their experiences

Tirupati: All India Radio (AIR) here has conducted a programme, to reflect cultural and scientific heritage of AIR, in the presence of the radio listeners and audience on the occasion of the 90th Indian Broadcasting Day.70 listeners in the age group of 19 to 93 from 3 districts participate in a programme organised at Chandragiri Fort. AIR Tirupati to broadcast ‘Seema Charitra Jaadalu’ programme soon, says director Dr Nagasuri Venugopal. The programme held at 1000-year-old Chandragiri Fort on Saturday. It may be recalled that, nine decades ago, radio broadcasting began in a systematic manner. On July 23, 1927, the Indian Broadcasting Company hosted radio broadcasts in Bombay. On January 1, 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting service began broadcasting from Delhi and on June 8 of the same year, the service name coined as ‘All India Radio’.

In the programme held at fort, 70 listeners in the age group of 19 to 93 have participated from Nellore, Kadapa and Chittoor districts. Tirupati AIR director Dr Nagasuri Venugopal has presided over the function and said that AIR, Tirupati will start broadcasting ‘Seema Charitra Jaadalu’ programme soon. Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) Vice-Chancellor Prof V Durgabhavani, who participated in the programme, said they were teaching radio as subject for journalism students in the SPMVV. 

This is the most popular medium which attracts every segment of the people, she added. TTD Projects Special Officer N Muktheswara Rao stated that just like railways which scattered to the entire country, AIR also made its presence felt in every nook and corner of the country connecting with people of different regions and languages which results in national integration. People like Devulapalli Krishnasastri, Adivi Bapiraju and others have participated in AIR programmes and their speeches are to be broadcasted again and again.
