All India Radio Coimbatore observes World Glaucoma week

The number of people (aged 40-80 years) with glaucoma worldwide was estimated at 64.3 million in 2013, and is expected to increase to 76.0 million in 2020. Enormous efforts will be needed in the next decade to overcome the impact of glaucoma around the world. New strategies concerning glaucoma screening, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation are mandatory.

To create awareness on this All India Radio Coimbatore has planned various programmes in its both the channels - 999khz Primary channel and103 FM Rainbow.Experts participated in a Live Phone in programme in FM Rainbow and extensive interviews were broadcast in Primary Channel in the category of Special audience programme aimed at Farmers and Women."We should Practice What We Preach" Akashwani Recreation Club Coimbatore and Sankara Eye Trust combinedly organised eye screening camp on 15 March 2017 for the employees.

Smt K.Chitralega HOO/AD(P) outlined the importance of awareness on one's healthy vision. She also said If care is taken consistently, healthy life is assured. Eye screening and councelling were done from 1030am to 3pm.
