Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan, the Annual Musical extravaganza organized by All India Radio on a single day in selected cities throughout the country, was conducted on 24th September 2016. The function at Thiruvananthapuram was held at the prestigious Levee Hall at East Fort. Eminent Artists performed on the evening of 24th September. The programme began with a Nagaswaram recital by Shri. P Rajagopal and Shri. M N Ganesh. Nagaswaram is considered to be a Mangalvadyam (MangalDhwani) in the southern part of India, akin to the Shehnai of the North. The second concert was an inspiring Mridangam Layavinyasam by Shri. V V Ramanamurthy. The programme concluded with a vocal concert by the Vishnubhatla sisters, Smt. V Saraswathy and Smt. V Krishnaveni. The programme was privileged to have a very receptive and knowledgeable audience who appreciated the programme in all its splendor and colour. The programme came to an end around 9.15 PM.
