All India Radio has a long tradition of organising Akasvani Sangeet Sammelan.Started in 1954,this has a unique characteristic as in one day several Music Concerts would be organised cross the length & breadth of the country.And later the recordings of these concerts would be b’cast over AIR for more than one month on daily basis.This year on Saturday i.e.24th Sep, the Akasvani Sangeet Sammelan was organised in 24 cities of the country.In North East it as only Shillong where this event took place. But Shillong became prominent for some other reasons. It was because the Shillong created a history as it was for the first time that Western Music was included in Akasvani Sangeet Sammelan. Before this only Hindustani & Carnatic Music was part of Akasvani Sangeet Sammelan.
In Saturday Music Concert, the Programme started with the Western Classical Violinist Prosanto Chunder Dutt .He was accompanied by his wife Malabika Dutt on digital Piano.It was followed by the performance of “Soulmate”,a Shillong based Blues band.Famous for their “Blue”Music, Rudy Wallang & Tipriti Kharbangar enthralled the audience.The Musical evening ended with the electrifying & energetic performance of Lou Majaw who entertained audience in his well known style.The recording of this programme will be aired on 30th Nov at 1000p.m.The programme took place in U So So Tham auditorium.
