The BSNL Sports (live) quiz, one of the most popular shows on the Doordarshan Podhigai television channel, will complete 750 episodes on October 2. To commemorate the overwhelming success of the show, the organisers have decided to host a thanksgiving function for the fans on September 29at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Mylapore). This will be telecast live. Speaking about the show at a press conference here on Tuesday, M. Anandan, Deputy Director General (E), said the programme has been conceived and delivered indigenously. “Everything, ranging from infrastructure, graphics and software support, has been the innovation of DD Podhigai,” he said. The viewers have ranged from school kids to senior citizens, he added.Anandan said that in order to keep up with the times and viewers’ demands, DD Podhigai had introduced 3G video calling and Skype. The livewire of the show and its anchor, Dr. Sumanth Raman, attributed the success to team effort. “I would like to thank the family of DD Podhigai and the sponsor BSNL TN Telecom Circle. It’s not me alone as there is a team which is working to make so many things click, especially on a live show. And no channel has done calls through 3G video calling or Skype on a regular basis,” he said. Highlighting the reach of the programme, Sumanth said he gets calls from as far as the United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, The Netherlands and the Middle East.
