Unused set-top boxes could be worth $750 million: TRAI

Up to 30 million Set Top Boxes (STBs) of Direct to Home (DTH) operators worth nearly 750 million US Dollars may be lying unused in the country mainly because of non-interoperability, broadcasting sector regulator TRAI has said. In a pre-consultation paper issued by it, TRAI has said the financial implications of non-interoperability of STBs are huge as in addition to DTH, numerous Cable TV STBs too are lying unused. As it aims to push for interoperability of STBs, the TRAI paper said since the inactive Set Top Boxes cannot be used for reception of services of other operators, the money invested goes waste and it also results in creation of e-waste. Currently the Set Top Box of a particular operator cannot be used by a consumer to receive signals of another operator. In such a scenario, every time a subscriber wants to change an operator he has to buy a new STB.

"The commercial implications of non-interoperability of STBs are huge," TRAI said in the paper, adding that as per the report submitted by DTH Operators to it in December 2015, around 85 million STBs have been either sold or provided to the subscriber out which only around 55 million are in active mode. "This indicates that around 30 million STBs are lying idle or unused, mainly because of non-interoperability of STBs," the TRAI said. "Considering an initial capital expenditure around $25 per STB, a total of $750 million capital is lying unused," the broadcasting sector regulator has said. It added that exact data in respect of Cable TV services are not available but it is anticipated that the numbers of inactive STBs there too is very large. In the paper, TRAI has dwelt on various issues related to inter-operability and sought comments from stakeholders.

Although the iconoscope was an epoch-making invention, the later image-orthicon (developed by RCA in 1946) was actually what was needed for TV to advance. The image orthicon has a sensitivity 100 times higher than that of the iconoscope. Small image pickup tubes, including the Plumbicon and the Saticon, spurred development of color TV and miniaturized cameras. Since the mid 1980’s, the most common image pickup device has been the CCD. Backed by the semiconductor industry, CCD capabilities advanced rapidly, eventually resulting in the present small high-performance cameras.

During sensitivity studies on the generation of a phototransistor-like amplification effect within a photoconductive film, an avalanche-multiplication phenomenon was observed that was unexplainable by the conventional image pickup theory. This discovery resulted in the development of the highly sensitive HARP image pickup tube. A high-sensitivity camera using this image pickup tube produces clear video images in the dark, and has been employed in reporting breaking news and in the shooting of aurora phenomena.

कला, संस्कृति, साहित्य, संगीत और राजनीति - हर मायनों में हमेशा सुर्खियों में रहने वाले "सूबा- ए- अवध"यानि कि उ० प्र० की राजधानी लखनऊ स्थित प्रसार भारती के आकाशवाणी केन्द्र का प्रादेशिक समाचार एकांश इस 15अप्रैल को अपनी प्रसारण -यात्रा के 63वर्ष पूरे करने जा रहा है ।15अप्रैल1953 को आकाशवाणी के लखनऊ और नागपुर केन्द्रों से प्रादेशिक समाचार बुलेटिन का प्रसारण शुरू हुआ था ।इस समय आकाशवाणी के समाचार सेवा प्रभाग के अंतर्गत कुल 44 क्षेत्रीय समाचार एकांश कार्यरत हैं जहां सामान्य रूप से निदेशक/सहायक निदेशक/संवाददाता और संपादक के रूप में भारतीय सूचना सेवा के एक, दो या उससे अधिक अधिकारी तैनात हैं ।पूरे देश में 90से अधिक पूर्ण कालिक नियमित संवाददाताओं, पांच विशेष संवाददाताओं(कोलम्बो, काठमांडू, ढाका, काबुल और दुबई) और 500से अधिक अंशकालिक संवाददाताओं (P.T.C.)के माध्यम से आकाशवाणी की बुलेटिनों के लिए समाचार संकलन होता है ।इसके अलावा समाचार ऐजेंसियों की भी सेवाएँ ली जा रही हैं ।आपको जानकारी देना चाहूँगा कि इन 44क्षेत्रीय समाचार एकांशों से प्रतिदिन 67बोलियों और भाषाओं में कुल 355 बुलेटिनों का प्रसारण हो रहा है ।इसमें 22 स्टेशनों से प्रसारित होनेवाले एफएम गोल्ड की समाचार सुर्खियां भी शामिल हैं ।आकाशवाणी लखनऊ के प्रादेशिक समाचार एकांश से प्रतिदिन सायं7-20 से 7-30तक प्रादेशिक समाचार बुलेटिन हिन्दी में, समाचार पर आधारित जिले की हलचल का प्रसारण रविवार छोड़ कर प्रतिदिन सुबह 9-05 से 9-15,रविवार को सुबह 9-05 से 9-10तक सामयिक चर्चा ,दोपहर 1-10 से 1-15 तक ऊर्दू में समाचार ,सायं 6-30 से 6-40तक सिर्फ शार्ट वेब पर उत्तराखंड बुलेटिन के अलावा विधानमंडल समीक्षा आदि का भी प्रसारण हो रहा है ।वर्ष2007 में इस एकांश ने न्यूज आन फोन सेवा भी शुरू किया ।

इस एकांश से अनेक नामी गिरामी शख़्सियतों की समबद्धता समय समय पर रही है ।जनाब मेराजुद्दीन खां सहायक निदेशक (समाचार), डा० एम० एस० यादव(संपादक) इन दिनों कार्यरत हैं और पूर्व में श्री यज्ञदेव पंडित, रामजी त्रिपाठी, रामसागर शुक्ल, रज्जन लाल, मुन्नीलाल, श्री खरे ,नवनीत मिश्र, अरुण कुमार श्रीवास्तव, हरिलाल, सुनील शुक्ल, प्रवीण कवि, आर० पी० सरोज आदि भी अपनी स्मरणीय सेवाएं दे चुके हैं । पूर्व समाचार वाचक नवनीत मिश्र ने इस अवसर पर ब्लॉग लेखक को बताया है कि "15 अप्रैल 1953 को लखनऊ रेडियो से प्रादेशिक समाचारों का प्रसारण शुरू हुआ। शाम 6बज कर40 मिनट पर पहला बुलेटिन श्री यज्ञदेव पण्डित ने पढ़ा। पहले समाचार संपादक थे श्री बी पी निगम और सहायक संपादक,सूचना प्रसारण मंत्री बी वी केसकर के सहपाठी वी डी शोलापुरकर। पहले संवाददाता समाचारों की रिपोर्टिंग अग्रेजी में किया करते थे जिसका न्यूज सेक्शन में हिन्दी में अनुवाद किया जाता था। "नवनीत जी ने आगे बताया कि बाद में इस अनुवाद-व्यापार को समाप्त करने के लिए पंडित जी विधान मण्डल की कार्यवाही की रिपोर्टिग करने स्वयं जाने लगे।चीनी आक्रमण के बाद 1962 में जब उत्तराखण्ड के लिए उत्तरायण कार्यक्रम शुरू हुआ तब 10 मिनट का बुलेटिन और प्रसारित होने लगा। उस बुलेटिन में देश-विदेश के समाचार शामिल किए जाते थे। अब उसमें विशेष रूप से उत्तराखण्ड राज्य के समाचार होते हैं।

न्यूज सेक्शन में पंडित जी के अलावा जयदेव त्रिवेदी,सोहन लाल थपलियाल ,जोज़ेफ़ टेटे और मैंनेे समाचार वाचन किया। रामजी त्रिपाठी और मुन्नी लालजी लंबे समय तक समाचार संपादक रहे। उर्दू समाचार वाचन में एस ए रिज़वी और शाहीन सुल्ताना के नाम प्रमुख हैं।"आकाशवाणी लखनऊ के प्रादेशिक समाचार एकांश की 63वीं वर्षगांठ पर गोरखपुर स्थित एकांश के वरिष्ठ समाचार संपादक श्री रमेशचंद्र शुक्ल,अनुबंधित वाचक डा० मुमताज अहमद खां,प्रमोद कुमार सिंह, लखनऊ एकांश से लम्बे अरसे से जुड़े अनुबंधित समाचार वाचक श्री प्रेमकान्त तिवारी, शोभित, डी० डी० न्यूज देवरिया के संवाददाता श्री मृत्युंजय प्रसाद विशारद,प्रादेशिक समाचार के महराजगंज प्रतिनिधि प्रेम सिंह सहित प्रसार भारती परिवार की ओर से भी शुभकामनाएं दी जा रही हैं ।

In a first, Ram Navmi revelry to air live on DD

For the first time, state broadcaster Doordarshan will give a live telecast of Ram Navmi celebrations from Kanak Bhavan in Ayodhya on April 15.

"The tradition of Lord Rama's birth at Kanak Bhavan, the oldest temple in Ayodhya, would be shown live on Doordarshan's Bharti and UP channels," said senior programme executive at Lucknow Doordarshan, Atma Prakash Mishra. "Since Lord Rama was born at 12 noon, the telecast would be done from 11.30am to 12.30pm," Mishra added.Seers in Ayodhya welcomed the announcement.

Jagadguru Ram Dineshacharya of the Ramanand sect said only the lucky devotees get to see Rama's birth and it is no less than a pilgrimage . "Even Lord Shiva came down on the earth and wandered in the bylanes of Ayodhya to catch a glimpse of these rituals," he said.Citing a shlok by Tulsidas (jahi din ram janam shruti gawen, teerath sakal tahan chali awen), he said, "all the pilgrimages came to ayodhya to be a part of the occasion. And therefore, anyone who gets a chance to see this, carries with him the advantage of visiting all the pilgrim places in one go."

Groups working to promote Ayodhya on the tourist map also expressed happiness over the live telecast. Sri Saryu Avadh Balak Sewa Samiti member Ashish Mishra said that there was so much to learn from Rama's birth. "Rama was born at noon and it is believed that his birth implies for a balance in life," he said.The telecast would also include several short films on temples in Ayodhya like Nageshwar Nath and Hanuman Garhi. The films would also depict the tradition of Saryu Darshan and glimpses of life in the temple town.

All India Radio, Chennai Organised a special invited audience programme in connection with UGADI(Telugu New Year) on 29th March, 2016 In MTR Auditorium in the premises of All India Radio, Chennai. Retired Station Director Shri S. Venugopal Reddy Graced the Function as Chief Guest. Six items featured in the programme. Programme started with traditional Panchanga Sravanam and Sangeetha Geyadhara Fame Shri Saikrishna Yachendra and cine lyricist Shri Bhuvanachandra presented poetry. Dasavatharam - Kuchipudi dance by the children, Comedy Play, Short story and Kuchipudi Nrithya Vasantham by the disciples of legendary Kuchipudi guru Late Vempati Chinsathyam from Kuchipudi art Academy enthralled audience, who came in good numbers to the function.

इस अवसर पर आकाशवाणी बालाघाट के कार्यालय प्रमुख सहा. निदेशक अभियान्त्रकी श्री राजेश बारई ने कहा कि, विश्व ने बाबा साहेब को 'ज्ञानपुंज प्रतीक'के रूप में स्वीकार किया है, ये हमारे लिए गौरव की बात है. उपस्थित स्टाफ़ ने भी विमर्श में शामिल होकर अपने विचार व्यक्त किये और बाबा साहेब के चित्र पर पुष्प अर्पित कर उन्हें आदरांजलि दी.कार्यक्रम का संचालन केंद्र के वरिष्ठ उद्घोषक प्रकाश उदय ने किया.

All India Radio Panaji (Goa) celebrated the 125th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R.Ambedkar on 14th April, 2016 at AIR Panaji at 11.00 am. The programme started with lighting candles to the newly framed official Portrait on canvas of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar at the hands of Shri.C.K.Omprakash, DDG (E), HPT, AIR Bambolim,Shri.Santosh D.Padgaonkar ,PEX and Head of Office,Shri.Vinay Khedekar ,AE and Engineering Head,Shri. Gopal Chippalkatti, AD (RNU), AIR Panaji,Shri.Balaji Prabhugaonkar,AD(Mass and Communication),PIB. Shri. Shri.Dinkar Yadav, Audience Research, gave an introduction speech on Dr. B.R.Ambedkar, a multifaceted personality and the Father of Indian Constitution. Shri. Gopal Chippalkatti ,Assistant Director News, RNU, AIR Panaji  talked on the relevance of thoughts of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R.Ambedkar on this occasion. Shri.C.K.Omprakash and Shri. Santosh Padgaokar highlighted on Dr. B.R.Ambedkar’s Work and Mission in framing India’s constitution.
The programme was followed by showcasing drama entitled “PRAVAS” which is Marathi adaption of Athol Fugard’s “A road to Mecca” dealing with the journey of a woman in search of her identity amidst the social bondages and male dominated society.
The play was written and directed by Shri.Saish Deshpande; Jr.Announcer, AIR Panaji.The 15 minutes talk programme on the relevance of thoughts of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R.Ambedkar by Shri. Gopal Chippalkatti, AIR Panaji was scheduled to broadcast at 6.30 pm on 14th April, 2016 on AIR Panaji. All the staff members attended the function. The whole programme was compared by Shri.Dinkar Yadav.

आज भारतरत्‍न बाबा साहेब अंबेडकर की 125 वीं जयंती है। भारत के इस सपूत का जन्‍म 14 अप्रैल 1891 को इंदौर के निकट मऊ में हुआ था। वे मानव-मुक्ति के महानायक थे और समग्र मानवीयता के वे अग्रदूत थे। इस महामानव ने समाज में क्रांति लाने के लिए शांति का उद्घोष किया और युद्ध को नहीं बल्कि बुद्ध के धम्‍म को अपनाया। हम सभी भारतरत्‍न बाबा साहेब अंबेडकर को भारत के संविधन निर्माताओं में से एक के रूप में पहचानते हैं। वे भारतीय संविधान के प्रणेता तो थे ही, साथ ही स्‍वतंत्रता पूर्व प्रां‍तीय सरकार में श्रम मंत्री के रूप में कार्यरत थे। श्रम मंत्री के रूप में कार्य करते हुए उन्‍होंने कई योजनाओं को अग्रेषित किया। जैसे बड़ी बड़ी निदयों पर बडे बड़े बांध, मज़दूरों और महिलाओं के लिए आठ घंटे कार्य का निर्धारण इत्‍यादि। उनके लिखे आर्थिक और सामाजिक विषयों पर निबंध आज विश्‍व के कई महाविद्यालयों में पढ़ाए जाते हैं। यह उनके दृष्‍टा होने का परिचायक भी है। उन्‍होंने बुद्ध के सिद्धांतों को अपनाया क्‍योंकि वे जानते थे कि ज्ञान से ही विकास संभव है।

 आकाशवाणी मुम्बई द्वारा आज दिनांक 14 अप्रेल 2016 को भारत रत्न डॉ. बाबासाहेब भीमराव आम्बेडकर की 125 वीं जयंती के अवसर पर उन्हें श्रद्धासुमन अर्पित किए गए ।
इसी के साथ आज से आकाशवाणी मुम्बई द्वारा बाबासाहब के 125 वीं जयंती समारेाह का शुभारंभ भी हो गया । आकाशवाणी मुम्बई द्वारा दिनांक 14 अप्रेल से 21 अप्रेल 2106 तक बाबासाहब की जयंती समारोह सप्ताह की शुरूआत भी हो गयी । समारोह सप्ताह के तहत विभिन्न कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए जायेंगे । 

आकाशवाणी मुम्बई में पहली बार बाबा साहब डॉ. आम्बेडकर की जयंती को समारोह पूर्वक सप्ताह मनाने हेतु उपमहानिदेशक कार्यक्रम श्रीमती सुमनजी के मार्गदर्शन में ​​​​विभिन्न कार्यक्रमों की परिकल्पना की गयी है ।  
आज बाबासाहब के जन्मदिवस कार्यक्रम के साथ इस सप्ताह की शुरूआत में ही बडी संख्या में कर्मचारी, अधिकारी कार्यक्रम में मौजूद रहें जिनमें प्रमुख रूप से उपमहानिदेशक अभियांत्रिकि श्री सुधीर सोधिया, डॉ. संतोष जाधव, श्री मधुकर मातोण्डकर, श्रीमती मनीषा निकाले, श्री सुधीर सोनावणे, श्रीमती संघमित्रा,श्री शिंकु, श्री सपकाले, श्री श्याम, श्री भण्डारे, श्री तडाके,, श्री कपिल धोरे आ​दि द्वारा श्रद्धासुमन अर्पित किए गए ।

आज आकाशवाणी भोपाल कार्यालय में भी डाॅ. अम्बेडकर की 125वीं जयंती मनायी गयी।आकाशवाणी के मुख्य सभा कक्ष में आयोजित एक समारोह में, आकाशवाणी भोपाल के केन्द्राध्यक्ष श्री अनवार अहमद खान, उप निदेशक (अभियांत्रिकी) व तकनीकी प्रमुख श्री सुदर्शन अंसोलिया तथा विज्ञापन प्रसारण सेवा की कार्यालय प्रमुख श्रीमती रेखा श्रीवास्तव के साथ-साथ, आकाशवाणी भोपाल, विज्ञापन प्रसारण सेवा तथा अतिरिक्त महा निदेशक कार्यालय (मध्य क्षेत्र 2) के वरिष्ठ एवं कनिष्ठ अधिकारियों तथा कार्मिको ने बाबा साहेब के चित्र पर माल्र्यापण व पुष्प अर्पित कर अपनी भावांजलि अर्पित करते हुए उन्हें याद किया गया।
तत्पश्चात् डाॅ. साकेत अग्निहोत्री ने पाली भाषा में ‘‘त्रिशरण पंचशील’’ का पाठ किया जिसे सभी ने दोहराया।इस अवसर पर बाबा साहेब के व्यक्तित्व और कृतित्व पर केन्द्रित एक वैचारिक सभा आयोजित की गयी। जिसमें केन्द्राध्यक्ष श्री अनवार अहमद खान ने बाबा साहब के द्वारा किए गए कार्योंं याद करते हुए कहा कि बाबा साहब के आदर्श और कार्य समाज के सभी वर्गों के लिए थे। श्री खान ने अपनी बात को और स्पष्ट करते हुए कहा कि सामाजिक समरसता के जिस सिद्वांत पर बाबा साहेब जीवन भर चले, हम सबको भी उसी दिशा में आगे बढ़ते रहने की जरूरत है। अभियांत्रिकी प्रमुख श्री सुदर्शन अंसोलिया ने डा. अम्बेडकर द्वारा देश और समाज के उत्थान के लिये किये गये कार्यों को याद करते हुए कहा कि, आज जरूरत इस बात की है कि, हम सब बाबा साहेब के बताये विचारों पर चलें और उनके आदर्शो को अपनाते हुए देश और समाज के हित में भेद-भाव, छुआ-छूत तथा शिक्षा जैसे अंधकार को दूर करने के साथ-साथ, समाज के कमजोर और पिछड़े तबकों को समाजिक न्याय दिलाने में अपने-अपने कर्तव्यों का पालन करें। इस वैचारिक सभा में डाॅ. साकेत अग्निहोत्री के साथ-साथ सर्वश्री एस.पी.सिंह, दीपक सचदेव तथा श्रीमती प्रीति छड़ीदार, ने भी अपने-अपने विचार रखे ।
कार्यक्रम में वरिष्ठ प्रशासनिक अधिकारी श्री राजेश वन्जानी तथा आकाशवाणी और दूरदर्शन केन्द्र भोपाल के स्टाॅफ के सदस्यों ने भी, बाबा साहेब को  पुष्प अर्पित कर अपनी-अपनी भावांजलि अर्पित की।
