SITTING ASANA
JANUSIRASAN (Head-Knee Posture)
‘Janu’ means ‘Knee’ and ‘Sir’ means ‘Head’. In this asana, the head rests on the knee. Hence it is called Janusirasan. This sitting forward bending asana serves as a prologue to Paschimottanasan.
Benefits:
· Removes disorders of the reproductive cells
· Cures gastric trouble, obstruction of urine
· Strengthens the back muscles and nadis, ankles, calves and knees
· All seminal disorders are set right
· Stops the flow of sugar in urine, beneficial for diabetic patients
· Relieves High & Low Blood Pressure, Prostate, Menstrual and Menopausal problems
· Reduces body weight, excess fat in the abdomen
Caution:
Do not practice when you have respiratory problems, dizziness, hip injury and during pregnancy
Technique (How to perform):
· Sit on a yoga mat stretching the legs in front and joining the heels and toes
· Bend the right leg and the right heel must press the perineal space
· The sole of the foot should touch the left thigh
· Place both the palms on the left knee
· Keeping the lower part of the back straight, inhaling stretch the hands towards the sky
· Exhaling, bend forward and catch hold of left foot with both of hands and rest the forehead on the left knee and the elbows on the ground
· Normalise the breath and stay on this pose for a while
· Inhaling gently raise the hands towards the sky and exhaling come back to original position with stretching the hands sideways
· Repeat on the other side also
· Relax in Bishram position.
