GOMUKHASAN (Cow Face Posture)




‘Go’ means Cow and ‘Mukh’ means Mouth. When these asana is performed, the final position of the legs resembles the mouth of a cow, hence the name.

Benefits:

·         Practice of this asana is very useful in curing the aliments of excessive urination, seminal weakness, leucorrhea, diabetes, kidney disorders, back pain, neck pain and asthma

·         Relieves cervical spondylosis, carpal tunnel syndrome

·         Helps tone up nervous system and stabilizes mind

·         Relieves cramps, prostate, menstrual, menopausal problems

·         Cures aliments of thighs, pelvic region, throat and heart

·         Expands the chest and increases the lungs capacity

 

Caution:

                Do not practice when you have hips, knee or ankle injury, shoulder pain, hernia, sciatica, during second and third trimesters of pregnancy.

Technique (How to perform):

·      Sit on a yoga mat stretching the legs in front and joining the heels and toes

·      Fold the left leg and place the heel under the anus

·      Fold the right leg in such a manner that the right knee be placed on the left knee and right heel may touch the left buttock

·      Take the right arm behind the back from above and left arm from below so that fingers of both hands are interlocked behind the back, the upper arm should touch the right ear

·      Stay steady in this position with normal breathing for sometimes

·      Return to the beginning position and repeat the process by the other side also

·      After completion, relax in Bishram position.
