VAJRASAN ( Thunderbolt Posture)
Vajrasan pose is a simple sitting yoga pose. “Vajra” means “thunderbolt”, “adamant”. Sitting in this asana provides stability to the sitter like an adamant. Hence the name.
Also, owing to its impact on vajra nadi, our body becomes as strong as adamant. It is therefore called Vajrasan. This pose is ideal for practicing long meditation as it provides a firm base to the body. It is the only pose that can be done on a full stomach and at any time of the day. In fact it should be done right after having a meal for good digestion.
Benefits:
· The thigh put pressure on the calves and heat is generated in the foot nerves. This activates pelvic region and as a result digestive system is toned up
· Prevents constipation
· Strengthens the knees, thigh muscles
· Aids liver function
· Since the neck and the backbone remain straight and the body is relaxed, it provides rest to all organs of the body
· Sitting in this posture for 10 minutes, one can derive all the benefits of long walking
· The ailment of varicose vein can be cured by this asana
· Keeps the mind calm and stable
· Helps in the treatment of urinary problem, reducing obesity
· Helps in reducing menstrual cramps.
Caution:
Those having knee problem, leg injury and osteoarthritis problem should avoid this practice
Techniques (How to perform):
· Seat erect on a yoga mat
· Stretch out the legs fully in front and keep them close together
· Place the palms of both hands on right side putting the entire weight of the body on them
· Fold back the knees simultaneously from left side and seat on the heels. Your buttock will rest on your heals and thighs will rest on the calves
· Bring the knees and toes touching to each other
· Rest the palms on the respective knees
· Sit erect and make the body relaxed
· Breath normal
· Stay in this posture for 8-10 minutes.
