Shri Milansar Ahmed, Station Director, All India Radio, Bengaluru will retire from government service on superannuation on 31st July 2016.
Shri Ahmed joined AIR as a Programme Executive on 19.02.1985 at AIR Dharwad and has served in AIR Dharwad, Bengaluru, Chitradurga & Raichur in various capacities. Shri Ahmed was promoted as Assistant Station Director in 1999 and as Station Director in 2014. He has also held the positions of Director, CRD, Bengaluru & Station Director, CBS, AIR, Bengaluru.
Shri Milansar Ather Ahmed (M A Ahmed) started his career as a lecturer taught Urdu language & literature for six years before joining AIR. He hails from an illustrious family of litterateurs, and is a well known Urdu critic and poet. He contributes literary articles and book reviews regularly in Urdu & writes poems occasionally. He has published three books which have been awarded by various Urdu academies in the country. He is currently a member of the Karnataka Urdu Academy. Mr. Ahmed has edited the literary magazine “Azkar” for three years. Shri Milansar Ahmed’s father Late Shri Hameed Almas, recipient of Central Sahitya Akademi award, was a very well-known Urdu poet and was honoured by the Government of Karnataka with the prestigious “Rajyotsava Award” also. Shri Ahmed’s wife Dr. Haleema Firdous is a famous critic, writer and has several books to her credit.
Shri Milansar Ahmed, an excellent administrator, is a very creative person who channelled his creative energies in producing several excellent Urdu programmes which set a high benchmark. He has organised several mushairas & seminars at various stations. His programmes & creative activities have stood the test of time & are remembered even today by the intellectual fraternity and public alike.
Shri Milansar Ahmed has interviewed several well known personalities throughout his career. Some notable persons he has interviewed for radio are eminent poet Shri Javed Akhtar, renowned actor Ms. Shabana Azmi, noted singer Dr. P B Srinivas & many other literary luminaries.
Shri Ahmed’s interests are multifarious, he’s an avid film enthusiast, enjoys the company of creative youth be it poets, actors or singers. During his tenure at AIR Chitradurga, AIR Bengaluru & CBS, AIR, Bengaluru he conceived several creative programmes which were very well received by listeners. Some of the popular programmes he conceived at Vividhbharati Bengaluru are “Cine Dhwani” – unique radio film magazine, “Varada Atithi” – a weekly Live chat show which features budding, upcoming artistes & eminent personalities from the “Sandalwood”- the Kannada film industry and “Nammooru Namjana” (Our City & our People) a LIVE chat show featuring eminent personalities who have contributed to the betterment of society & people who have brought about a change in peoples’ lives.
Shri Ahmed was instrumental in Vividhbharati Bengaluru being active on social media like Facebook, Twitter etc. On his initiative, several reports were published regularly in PB Parivaar blog.
