Radio is unequivocally one of wonders of 19th Century. The inventors like Guglielmo Marconi, Heinrich Hertz, Nikola Tesla , James Clerk Maxwell , J C Bose etc. worked on conquering the airwaves. The radio and television brought major and speedy revolution in the world of mass communication which made it possible to communicate the message to the masses in no time. Radio used to operate in Medium Wave and Short wave. While Amstrong is regarded as the father of FM radio as he introduced FM in 1931, but the technology didn't catch on until the 1960s. John Baird is generally regarded as the father of television. Radio played a marvellous role in the fields of education, information and entertainment and tremendously influenced the society. India has a rich dynamic & diverse culture and was bolstered by the invention of the Radio & Television. National integration, the development of scientific temperament and the "national consciousness" were among the early objectives of All India Radio. There were numerous personages and programmes broadcasted over Radio and Television in India and this article traces some of such gems. Some officers of AIR & Doordarshan were awarded with Padma Shri and a Padma Bhushan. .........
