OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE - PT. ARVIND GAJENDRAGADKAR

Veteran flutist and music director Pandit Arvind Gajendragadkar died of cardiac arrest in Pune on 29th May, 2010 after a prolonged illness. He was 82 years old. He survived by wife, two sons including journalist Nikhil and grandchildren.

He worked as a music producer from 1959 to 1978 with the All India Radio stations in Dharwad, Patna, Pune and Nagpur. Gajendragadkar had broadcast flute solo recital on Akashwani since 1951. He was the only artiste to play Swaramandal solo.Gajendragadkar had taken lessons in flute recital from Pannalal Ghosh and Muralidhar Shastri. Besides flute, he also used to play various other musical instruments. He had trained a number of artistes belonging to younger generations. Gajendragadkar had written 25 books on the theory of classical music in English and Marathi.
