Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today directed officials to expedite setting up of the All India Radio FM station at Suryapet in Telangana. According to officials, Naidu gave the direction after receiving a representation from Gutha Sukhendar, MP from Nalgonda. The proposal to set up the FM radio station at Suryapet with 10 kW FM transmitter was approved by the government in February, 2007. The officials informed Naidu that the construction of composite transmitter building is likely to be completed by December, 2016.
A 10 kW FM transmitter, along with associated equipment, has already been procured for Suryapet and installation work will be taken up as soon as the building is ready. The minister was told by the officials that a 1 kW FM transmitter was commissioned in December, 2011, by sharing BSNL infrastructure which is at present relaying DTH Telugu programme daily, a statement here said.
