Experts at JIPMER will address various health issues on the radio as part of a joint move with the All India Radio, Puducherry, to raise community awareness.The educative talks in Tamil will be broadcast on two AIR channels on Thursdays and Fridays.According to JIPMER Director Dr. S. C. Parija, the programme will focus on the preventive aspects of diseases and is run as part of JIPMER’s ongoing health education initiatives.
According to the schedule drawn up by AIR and JIPMER, medicos and experts will speak on health issues every Thursday from 6.45 a.m. to 7 a.m. in FM Rainbow and on Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 8.45 a.m. in Prime Channel 1215 KHz of All India Radio.This programme, which will be a pre-recorded one, was launched on Thursday.
The first programme which went on air featured a talk on basic facts about diabetes by Dr. Vivekanandhan, Additional Professor, Department of Medicine, JIPMER.The year-long programme will be broadcast in Tamil.Dr. Parija pointed out that as All India Radio, Puducherry, covered an estimated population of about 65 lakh, the programme had potential to reach out to mass listeners.
