The Pune collectorate has initiated a new programme called Mission Dhanwantari for the medical treatment of underprivileged children.
A special committee, made up of district health officials and women and child welfare department officials, is being set up for this purpose. Children from local schools and aanganwadis in need of treatment have already been identified by the administration. Funds for the treatment of these 160 kids will be provided through corporate social responsibility funds and other schemes of the government. A special tool-free number has been allotted for people to call and ask for help. It will be monitored by revenue officials and the socio-economic needs of children and their families will be examined before help is granted.
“Any child needing medical aid can contact via the toll-free number and a district committee on its panel will assess the genuineness of the case,’’ Pune District Collector Saurabh Rao said to Indian Express.......
