Rare Pictures of India’s Glorious Tryst with Radio

"Jana Gana Mana" is the national anthem of India. It was originally composed as Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata in Bengali by poet Rabindranath Tagore. The first stanza of the song Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata in its Hindi version was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India as the National Anthem on 24 January 1950. The poem was first sung on the second day of the annual session of the Indian National Congress in Calcutta on December 27, 1911. Song was performed by Sarala Devi Chowdhurani, Tagore’s niece, along with a group of school students, in front of prominent Congress Members like Bishan Narayan Dhar, Indian National Congress President and Ambika Charan Majumdar.

In 1912, the song was published under the title Bharat Bhagya Bidhata in the Tatwabodhini Patrika, which was the official publication of the Brahmo Samaj and of which Tagore was the Editor.Before it was the national anthem of India, "Jana Gana Mana" was heard in the film Hamrahi ( 1945 ) .The national anthem tell us that India is a diverse nation and there are differences in culture, traditions, religion and languages, but despite these differences, it reminds us that India is united under one flag. The anthem is significant in uniting people and reminding us that there isn't any difference between us Indians. The Indian national anthem is played or sung at various occasions. From government offices to schools and colleges, the national anthem of India is sung at special occasions or national holidays or even daily as it is also titled as "The Morning Song of India".

Panjaab, sindh, gujraat, maraatha 
Draavid utkal banga 
Vindya, himaachal, yamuna, ganga 
Utchchhal jaldhi taranga
