Laying emphasis on contextualizing events before highlighting them, eminent journalist Mohammad Sayeed Malik Tuesday said that a journalist must educate people.“It is the duty of a journalist to understand things dispassionately and put them in proper context only then will he be useful to the society, to the community and to himself,” Malik said. He was responding to questions posed by various members of audience who were interacting with him under ‘Naamwar’ programme held at JKAACL Seminar Hall . Interactive session was the fifth edition of monthly series ‘Naamwar’ which was started by JKAACL-Radio Kashmir in January this year with the objective of felicitating eminent persons from diverse fields of activity. Speaking on the occasion, Program Head, Radio Kashmir, Srinagar, Sayed Humayun Qaisar said that Radio Kashmir was open to the idea of having such collaborations with other cultural and educational institutions as well.
“After having joined hands with the Academy we are open to the idea of having such collaborations at broader level,” Qaisar said, adding, if institutions come up with viable ideas Radio Kashmir would like to associate with them. As part of the event an in-depth paper on various aspects of life and works of the eminent journalist was also presented by writer-journalist, Maqbool Sahil. As a token of affection, a shawl and citation were presented to Mohammad Sayeed Malik by the organizers. The programme culminated with a vote of thanks by Radio Kashmir programme executive, Javed Ahmad Sofi while proceedings of the event were conducted by Rashid Nizami.
