Dr. Suhasini Koratkar, former DP(Music), DG:AIR and top grade Vocal artist of Akashvani expired at Pune on 07.11.2017 night. Suhasini ji had joined as PEX at Akashvani Pune in 1975 and later worked as Station Director at AIR Aurangabad and AIR Panaji, Goa, before moving to Directorate as Director(Music). She was the senior most exponent and the Torch Bearer of the rare style of the Bhendi Bazar Gharana. She has been a reputed artiste of Thumri-Dadra, representing the special style of the veteran Thumri Artiste Vidushi Naina Devi.
A Ph.D. in Music Suhasini ji participated in serveral prestigious Music conferences eg. Tansen Festival, Gwalior, SawaiGandharvaMahotsav Pune, Vishnu Digambarjayanti, Delhi etc. and given several successful music performances all over India, which have been highly appreciated by all the critics and connoisseurs. Some of the Important Awards include 'Surmani' by the Sur – Singer Sansad, Mumbai, Swar - Laya Bhushan, Ganwardhan, Pune, Felicitation by the Mayor of Pune, Sangeet Shiromani by SAM, Delhi, Swarsadhana Ratna by Swarsadhana Samiti, Mumbai and 'Swar Madhuri' -- Central govt. Officers Association for Excellence. She will be remembered for her relentless efforts for the last 40 years to propagate the Bhendi Bazar Gharana Style which was on the verge of extinction, and has successfully popularized it on the National and International level, therein enriching the classical music field as a whole.
Akashvani Pune held a condolence meeting on 08.11.2017 in it’s conference hall, where Smt. Sangeeta Upadhye,Madhav Modak, Prasad Kulkarni, Gopal Autee and Ashish Bhatnagar remembered their association with her. Apart from 2 minute silence, the staff members listened a small clip of one of her finest performance.
