ONAM – The biggest and most important summer harvest festival of Kerala commemorates the mythologies in connection with the mighty “asura chakravorthy” ( demon king ) Mahabali and it remind us the glorious , happy and prosperous golden days during his reign and the home coming of the legendary king. The great cultural event includes ona pookkalam, ona sadya,onam kali,thumbi thullal,kummatti kali,athachamayam, onathallu,onapottan,thiruvathirakali,vallam kali,puli kali,onathappan etc…etc… Thiruvananthapuram DOORDARSHAN celebrated onam well in advance with great joy and enthusiasm. Elaborate preparations were made by the RECREATION CLUB to make it grand and memorable. The marvellous pookkalam ( floral carpet ) in the front courtyard of DDK was best suitable for the colourful carnival. There were so many games including musical chair,” balloon pottickal” etc… etc… The grand feast ona sadya was superior in nature with our rich tradition. The entire staff whole heartedly participated and celebrated the colourful cultural event.
