On 30th April 2017 in the Temple Town of Kanchipuram, Dr Mangala Ayre and Capt P K Iyre celebrated 50 years of their worthy companionship . They have decided to reside there post retirement to serve the society through their engagement in education of underprivileged kids.
They live on the modest pension received from the Central Government. They know only one way to celebrate: serve more. Out of their savings they issue a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to SEED TRUST run by Dr Kalpana Shankar, another great lady herself . Now we have a mobile medical van for the poor of the area.
I was invited by Mangala Aaka to be part of the 50th anniversary celebrations without being told about their generous plans. I could not attend and regret to be missing in the photos which will touch many a lives. I had to really make an effort to convince Mangala Aaka that I should be allowed to share this story. She was not sure whether it would serve any purpose. The public space is too full with negativity, I argued. She suggested if Kalpana ( Dr Kalpana Sankar ) agrees then may be. Then I was allowed.
Such is the story of Mrs and Mr Ayre.
