Launched in 2013 as a joint initiative of Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia ( CEMCA), UNESCO and Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, the competition aims at promoting engagement of Indian youth with Community Radio (CR), and using video documentaries as a tool to highlight the good work being done by CR in respect of Sustainable Development Goals at the grass root level.
In all, thirty one entries were received from all over the country and eight selected for various awards including one from J & K state.
The Jury met on May 8 at India Habitat Centre and comprised : Ashok Ogra, Chairman ( Director :AIMC), Dr. R.Sreedher, Co-Chairman (Professor Emeritus Apeejay Stya University), Niti Sarkar, Director (BC), I & B Ministry, Novel Lavasa, Noted Photographer & Social Activist , Mr. Rakesh Khar, General Manager, Network 18, RJ Yuvi, Radio City, Ruby Kapoor, Noted Theatre Director, Actor & Expert in Corp. Comm. Dr. R.Thyagarajan of CEMCA was the Coordinator.
The AWARD CEREMONY was held on May 17 at India International Centre. Present were: Dr. Shahid Rasool, Director ( CEMCA), Ashok Ogra, Director (AIMC), K.G. Suresh, DG (IIMC) & Aashish Joshi, Editor-in-Chief cum Chief Executive, Lok Sabha Television.
Award Winners:
Ist Prize (Rs. 50,000): Athul Raj for his film ‘OTHAL’ ( IF POSSIBLE) – dealing with water scarcity.
IInd Prize (Rs. 30,000): Shreyansh Ojha for his film ‘EK PEHEL’ on Swach Bharat.
3rd Prize (Rs.20,000) : Clifford Chetan Ambler for his film 'ARALIDA-BADUKU' (A BLOOMING LIFE) focusing on mother-daughter whose life is dependent on Jasmine cultivation.
In addition, 5 entries received the 'Special Recognition Awards' of Rs.10,000 each.
