Dr C.S.R. Rao, old timers would remember him as soft spoken, honest and thorough gentleman, but a very competent broadcast engineer, passed away in the last week of April, 2017. After Sh. H. S. Jolly, who left us about 3 months back, we find another veteran broadcaster being snatched, leaving a clear void of experience in the department. Both of them had contributed a lot to the development of the service in seventies and eighties.
Dr Rao, who headed, all-important of that period, Frequency Assignment section of AIR Directorate, was instrumental in successfully implementing 9 KHz plan of Medium Wave in All India Radio in 1978-79. Dr Rao was the first Chief Engineer of Research Department of All India Radio & Doordarshan (earlier the department was being headed by a Director). He can be considered to be a pioneer in Propagation Studies, of which he was a master. He did lot of work and published many research papers on the subject, which earned him a foreign assignment after his retirement on superannuation. He retired as Chief Engineer, Staff Training Institute of All India Radio and Doordarshan in 1985. He settled in Bengaluru after his retirement and leaves behind two daughters.
Prasar Bharati Parivar condoles the demise of Dr. CSR Rao and prays to the almighty for the peace of the departed soul.
