Jathra a word is very popular among the people of this semi-urban town Dharmapuri Tamil Nadu. Jathra is connected with religious festival of Suyambu (Self-Made) Sri Kali Amman the godess known as the Destroyer of Evil. This festival is being celebrated for the past 370 years. Now the fifth generation has taken over management of the temple says A.S.Ambalavannar Gounder, who is 94 years grand old man of the town. The priest of the temple Swaminathan is also 84 years old informed that this temple is tradition-bound and Mondays and the Temple car is ancent of about 300 years old and recently it was renovated by BHEL especially the wheels of the car.
