AIR,Guwahati bags four awards in AAA2016.

The All India Radio, Guwahati has brought laurels to the State by bagging four awards in the Akashvani Annual Awards in the categories of drama, feature, family welfare programme and science programme.Addressing the media here, Station Director of AIR Guwahati Dilip Kumar Das said that of the 450 AIR centres in the country, AIR, Guwahati has received highest award for the year 2016. “Akashvani Annual Awards were instituted in 1974 to promote professional excellence and to bring out the best from the staff working at various radio stations and installations. The competition was held among the programmes broadcasted between January 1 and December 31, 2016,” he added.

Hatir Kotha, a radio play on man-elephant conflict, interwoven with the story of a surrendered militant, produced by Nayan Prasad got the second award in the drama category. A feature, 1962 Tezpur – The Untold story – a tale of the chaos in Tezpur in the wake of the 1962 war and the positive role of a youth organisation, also bagged the second prize in the feature section. The feature has been produced by Tapan Dutta. In the family welfare section, the play Jasmine produced by Sanjay Goswami got the second prize in the national level competition. Jasmine deals with some relevant topics related to women in the backdrop of rural Assam. The issues it addresses are women’s literacy, superstition, family planning and several issues related to rural life in Assam.

AIR Guwahati also got a commendation certificate for its documentary feature in the science section for its programme called Umal Awas, produced by Prabal Kumar Sarma. The documentary feature has been made on conservation of the greater adjutant stork by the villagers of Dadara in Hajo area. Apart from the endangered greater adjutant stork, the documentary also focuses on the need for conservation of water bodies and the green cover. Meanwhile, as a tribute to eminent playwright Arun Sarma, who was closely associated with the All India Radio, AIR Guwahati has been broadcasting his plays. “We are also planning to further broadcast his popular plays in a phased manner,” said Das.
