Spring Youth festival Sount-2017 concludes at KU
Srinagar, March 24: Spring Youth Festival Sount -2017, organized by Department of Students Welfare (DSW) University of Kashmir to provide a platform for students to exhibit their talent concluded here on Thursday. During the four-day festival hundreds of students from various colleges, 45 teaching Depts of Kashmir University and from other Universities of the valley competed with each other in different categories which included events in debate, elocution, poster making, collage, painting, cartoon making and on-spot photography.
While felicitating the awardees during the valedictory ceremony held at KU`s Gandhi Bhawan auditorium S.P Traffic Srinagar Sargun shukla (IPS) said “Such festivals provide an opportunity to the youth to showcase their talent and at the same time helps in cross fertilization of innovative art, ideas and thoughts.” Former Deputy Director General Doordarshan, Dr Rafeeq Masoodi who presided over the valedictory session said in his remarks “Our students do not lack talent. They are a repository of innovative and creative ideas and it is our job to nurture their talent and provide them a proper platform where they can showcase their skills and this enormous talent.”
Congratulating the participants of the festival Dean Students Welfare KU Prof Fayaz Ahmad said “it was the dedication and the seriousness of the students which encouraged us to conduct the event with complete success and I look forward to youth participation at KU at various levels in future as well.” On the concluding day of the festival a debate competition on the topic ‘Women make better politicians than men’ was held which was evaluated by a 3-member jury which included former DDG Doordarshan Dr Rafeeq Masoodi, Prof Nasir Mirza from MERC and Ozair Nissar Liaison Officer KU.
The proceedings of the session were conducted by Shahid Ali Khan Cultural officer KU and Organizing secretary of the festival The first position in debate was bagged by Mahoor Mifta Shaw from Business School, KU while as Kaneez Mariyam from Department of Law KU and Mah Nashit Uzma from Central University of Kashmir secured second and third positions respectively. In elocution Beenish Mehraj from Department Law KU secured first position whileas Mohammad Shahkar Mearaj from DDE KU secured second position. The third position in this category was won by Mah Nashit Uzma from Central University of Kashmir. In cartoon competition first position went to Zaid Bhat from Institute of Music & Fine Arts KU whileas the second and third positions were bagged by Anis Rasheed Wani and Arbila Fayaz Mir both from Institute of Music & Fine Arts. In the category of poster making first position was won by Afifa Faiz from Institute of Music & Fine Arts whereas Mohammad Manan Khan from IUST, Awantipora and Nowbahar Khan from Central University of Kashmir bagged second and third positions
In collage making first position was won by Naurina Shabnam from GDC Nawakadal whereas the second and third positions were bagged by Muheeb Firdous from GDC, Bemina and Rukaya Rashid from GDC, Pampore. In painting Naurina Shabnam from GDC Nawakadal bagged the first position and Farah Naaz from GDC Nawakadal secured second position. Third position in this category went to Saba Altaf from Institute of Music & Fine Arts KU. In the category of photography Faizan Irshad from GDC Bemina secured first position. Zaid Bashir from GDC Bemina secured second position while as Touseef Khan from Institute of Music & Fine Arts KU secured third position.
