Smt Nanammal, Recipient of Nari Sakthi Puraskar National award 2017 at AIR Coimbatore

It was our great honour in inviting and interviewing Smt Nanammal, Recipient of Nari Sakthi Puraskar National award 2017 in our studios.The Nari Shakti Puraskars are presented to eminent women and institutions in recognition of their service towards the cause of women empowerment since 1999.V. Nanammal from Coimbatore, a 97 year old yoga enthusiast is one of the recipient of the award this year. The country's oldest yoga instructor shares in our interview that “I started practising yoga when I was eight. I learned yoga from my father, who was a martial artist and I never stopped practising yoga at any point in my life. That’s the secret of my health,” she adds.

“I get up at 4.30 in the morning and drink half a litre of water. I only brush my teeth with neem sticks. Afterwards I teach yoga to students.” she has kanji that is made of millets .“These are highly rich in fibre and calcium."

As many as 600 students of Nanammal are teaching yoga across the world. After she first attended a yoga competition in 2003 she has participated in 100 competitions so far.And now, 36 members of her family are yoga practitioners.

She has done some important yoga poses in our studios .
