Shillong lad wins ‘NE Body Sing-2016’

Shillong, Feb 11: Meghalaya’s modern tribal song artist Ribhakupar Shadap won the Modern Song Category in the second edition of the musical reality show ‘NE Body Can Sing-2016’ held under the aegis of
the North Eastern Services, All India Radio Shillong to promote and tap the unheard tunes of North East culture as well as to bring to the limelight the untapped musical talents of the region.
The grand finale of the show was held this evening at the Aurobindo Hall, Shillong. In the Modern Song category Nagaland’s modern tribal song artist Manchai Phom won the second spot which carry an award of
Rs 50,000. The winner of the category Ribhakupar received an award of Rs 1,00,000.

In the closely contested competition of the Western Song, Nagaland’s Seyievinuo Chuzo won the first position receiving a cash award of Rs 1,00,000 and the second position was grabbed by Mizoram’s western song artist Lalramzauvi receiving Rs 50,000 as cash award. The cash awards of both categories were sponsored by the State Bank of India.

Participants from different All India Radio stations including Argatala, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Shillong and Aizwal preformed in the said competition. Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) Prof. Sri Krishna Srivastava, Pro Vice Chancellor of NEHU Prof Dr Henry Lamin,Additional Director General (Programme & Administration) (NEZ) All IndiaRadio Shri D.N.Basumatari and AGM State Bank of India Shri Rajeev Arora honored the winners by handing over the cash prizes.

The objective of the musical reality show is to promote the inherent musical talents of the people of North Eastern Region and also to provide them a platform to exhibit their untapped and unsung melodies. The programme was aired LIVE by the North Eastern Service of All India Radio, Shillong from 4.30 PM to 7.30 PM and on FM 100.1 MHz, 4970 kHz,SW- 60.36 m and also from the transmitters of AIR- Shillong at 864 kHz, Guwahati, Itanagar, Imphal, Aizawl, Agartala Kohima, Gangtok.

It was also transmitted in the DTH service of All India Radio and Doordarshan and also on the DTH Service of NES.
