50 years of reminiscence: Meet AIR's 1st female announcer from Tripura, Juthika Bose

AGARTALA: ‘Namaskar Akashvani Agartala’ – the date was January 26, 1967. This was how Juthika Bose started her journey as first female announcer of All India Radio just 50 years back.

Now, she is in her seventies spending time in home playing with her grandchild. On January 26, All India Radio completed its 50 years of journey. When she was asked to give history of All India Radio in Tripura, she became quiet for few moments perhaps; she went to the flashback to recall the day.

“It was 4:30 PM when the first station of All India Radio was launched here. I gave my voice first introducing Akashvani on the day. Later, my colleague announcer Dhruva Mukherjee joined me. Dilip Ghosh, a renowned radio announcer from Kolkata who came to train us was also present then,” she said. Bose continued with AIR for four years and then joined Tripura government’s Education Department from where she retired in 2001 as publication officer. Completing schooling from Maharani Tulsibati Higher Secondary School, she got her BA from Kolkata’s Shivnath Shastri College and did masters in Bengali from Viswa Bharati University.

Later, she got married and became mother of a son. Soaked in family life, Juthika Bose didn’t give a halt to her education career.

“My son Indraneel was barely 2-3 years old when I started my Ph.D,” she said......
