All India Radio Manjeri F M Local Radio Station in Malappuram, Kerala, the first computer literate district in India , started it's much awaited morning transmission on Republic Day,from 6.30 a m to 1.20 p m.This is in addition to the existing evening transmission from 6 p m to 10 p m.The station, which turns 11 on 28th of January,will soon turn to seamless transmission till night,as envisaged by Prasar Bharati. Situated in Malappuram,the most populous district in Kerala, this station has the rare distinction of being located in one among the 20 cities with highest radio listenership in India,Manjeri F M ,inspite of its 3 KW transmitter, has a huge coverage area of about 85 lakhs of population,due to its elevated location on the top of a hill much above mean sea level.
The new transmission caters to the communication requirements of one of the fastest developing area,inhabited mostly by minorities.A host of new programmes, a bouquet of news,information and music are being aired with hourly news headlines and train timings.Dramatised serial reading of Sahitya Academy award winning novels,career guidance programme,daily tips on computer and mobile phones,service announcements, bulletines on developmental activities and welfare schemes,gazals ,live phone ins etc are amongst those of a host of new programmes launched from Manjeri F M.The new transmission has already received overwhelming response both from listeners and clients,resulting in inflow of sponsorships and spots.
