A section of a road in Indiranagar dedicated to former All India Radio (AIR) director, Samar Bahadur Singh, was inaugurated by mayor Dinesh sharma on Saturday. The road is located near Mansarover Square and will be called the Samar Bahadur Singh Marg.
Singh was born in 1919 and spent his childhood in Jaunpur district. Not wanting to join the family occupation of agriculture, he ran away from his home at the age of 14 as he wanted to study. He worked as a helper to earn his meals and used to borrow books to learn music at Bhatkhande music college. He went on to do his doctorate research on famous Mughal poet, Khanzada Mirza Khan Abdul Rahim Khan-e-Khana.
"The way he struggled to get an education and a job turned him into a role model for many. The Ramcharitmanas paath our parents loved on Vividh Bharti was composed and sung under his leadership, a digital archive of which was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year ," said his daughter-in-law, director of postal services, Abha Singh, .
Taking his dream further with the Ran Samar Foundation, Abha and her family, sponsor many education initiatives in Jaunpur.
"We have plans for Lucknow, which babuji called his karmabhoomi, as well. The foundation also provides free legal aid and vocational services to undertrials in Lucknow district jail," she added.
