Bhagguram Maurya, a resident of village Heerampur near Varanasi, had the one kilometre road constructed from the pension money he received after his retirement.
The road connects Babatpur to Rajatalab. He has already spent an estimated Rs 4 lakh on the construction of the road. Bhagguram joined the Army in 1978 and retired as an honorary Lieutenant in 2012. He received a medal from President Abdul Kalam in 2002 and was honoured again in 2012 by President Pranab Mukherjee.According to him there was no road in the village earlier – there was only a rough dirt track that caused a lot of inconvenience and injuries to the villagers.
Bhagguram is now requesting help for laying of interlocking tiles on the road. A few residents are also speaking to local panchayat representatives about this matter.“I am left with no money otherwise I would have purchased interlocking tiles and laid them. I have requested minister of state for public works department Surendra Patel to arrange for interlocking tiles. I hope he will provide help to us,” Bhagguram said to Hindustan Times.
